Harvest Fun!

October 28, 2006

What a glorious morning!  After two days of soaking rain the sun has finally broken through!  Tonight we will be having a Harvest Celebration at the church with pork chop sandwiches and delicious foods of all kinds.  The children will be dressing up in costumes and there will be prizes for dress and also for pumpkin carving.  Nice!

We also plan to have a bonfire where we can sit and visit with one another and enjoy delicious smores!  Yum!  Yum!   Friends, it doesn’t get any better than this!  I hope you have a great day also!

Gotta run…..

Do you remember as a kid watching children’s programs on TV?  I do!  I’m old enough to remember Howdy Doody on Saturday mornings, along with Winky Dink, Captain Kangaroo, Sherri Lewis and Lambchops, Mighty Mouse and Popeye.  I was so facinated by all of these characters and loved to sit and watch them.  I can remember as a child how "real" all of these characters seemed to me.  They seemed as "real" as the people I lived with!  It was only as I grew older that I realized these animated characters had no life of their own, they were just "make believe".

Much of life is discerning what is "real" and what is "unreal".  Even as adults, there can be much of life that seems so real, and so important, that we feel compelled to chase out after it.  Why do we do that?   Do we think that those things which seem so real to us will in some way bring us deeper meaning or fulfillment?   Many times later in life, we discover that those things that we chased so feverously after had no substance to them, and could not bring the happiness we sought.  Why do we chase after empty things?   Maybe that’s part of maturity.

I still have great childhood memories of Howdy Doody, Popeye, and Mighty Mouse.  They brought lots of laughter and fun to my life.  I am glad, though, that NOW I can pursue, and give my life, to those things that will bring substance, meaning, and hope to my life.

That’s all from the Peanut Gallery today!!!!

Fall Colors

October 26, 2006

I love this time of year!   The Fall colors in southern Indiana are some of the most beautiful you can see anywhere.  The radiant yellows, golds, oranges, and reds remind me of the seasons and how God has a season for everything…even our lives!   Our lives are made up of many different seasons.  There are times when we are very active, and times when we are to be quiet.   There are seasons of joy and sometimes seasons of sorrow.   Sometimes we’re rapidly growing, while other times we’re just trying to catch our breath!   I love life, don’t you.  I have discovered that the adventure of faith is how I want to live!   In this adventure, you never really know what is coming your way, or what God has in mind from day to day.   However, as I put my trust in Him, He never disappoints me!   I do know this one thing…I want to be a man of faith and I want to keep growing in my faith, so that I can impact my world for Jesus Christ.

Something that I have learned thus far in my life is that I can grow in ANY season of life!  And like the beautiful Fall colors that I see outside my Indiana window, I want my life to show forth the beauty of Christ.   Bill Gaither has written a song that says what is in my heart today, "Something beautiful, something good.  All my confusion He understood.  All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife.  But He made something beautiful of my life."   God, you are so amazing!   I love You!
